Championing Social Care has announced the appointment of Vishal Shah as its new Chair, marking an important milestone as the organisation enters its next phase of growth and impact.
Vishal Shah succeeds Avnish Goyal CBE, who steps down after five years as Founding Chair and the visionary behind Championing Social Care. Avnish has passed on the baton following Vishal’s election and will continue to support the organisation as a member of the Board of Directors.
Volunteer-led and sector-driven, Championing Social Care works to raise standards, enhance public understanding, and challenge outdated perceptions of social care. Through innovative, high-quality programmes, the organisation shines a positive light on the extraordinary people who live, grow and work within the sector, building a thriving national community of ambassadors and supporters.
Speaking at a reception attended by more than 70 Championing Social Care Ambassadors, Avnish Goyal said he was “incredibly proud” of what the organisation has achieved. He added that Vishal Shah brings “deep sector experience, values-driven leadership and enormous enthusiasm” to the role, and expressed his confidence in the organisation’s continued growth and impact.
Commenting on his appointment, Vishal Shah said it was a “real privilege” to take on the role of Chair at such a pivotal time. He highlighted the importance of Championing Social Care’s mission to ensure the sector is understood, valued and celebrated, and pointed to programmes including Care Sector’s Got Talent, Care Home Open Week and The Great British Care Cycle Relay, alongside new initiatives such as the CSC Masterclass and the ‘Who Cares Wins’ care careers conference.
With the continued support of its Patrons, Ambassadors, partners and supporters, Championing Social Care aims to strengthen public understanding, build pride across the sector and help create a future in which social care and its workforce are truly recognised and celebrated.
